The Construction of Beaver Tower

 The Construction  of Beaver Tower

Mr. Woodtail was a conscientious beaver who lived in Beaver Dam No. 12. One day, he thought to himself, “All of us beavers have built separate dams to live in. The river has become so crowded because of this. If we combine these dams to build a single ginormous dam, it would be easier for other animals to carry out their usual activities on the river.” And so Mr. Woodtail explained his idea to the other beavers. They were quite pleased and decided to move their homes and make a gigantic beaver complex. The complex was designed by Mr. Brown, an extremely talented architect. It had small openings as windows, a huge gate made of oak and even a playground with wooden slides and swings.

The beavers used a large amount of wood and therefore, their complex stretched high up in the sky. When the other animals of the forest learnt about the magnificent structure’s construction, they helped in all the ways they could. The rabbits provided the beavers with clay sculptures (something that they were very good at), the squirrels gave them acorns to decorate the structure and the hedgehogs proffered them with mushrooms and soft velvety grass.

Thanks to the hard work of the animals, a spectacular structure was formed, although it was still under construction. The ‘under construction part’ was not understood by an enemy of the beavers who thought of it as an opportunity to snatch a beaver without getting wet. His name was Mr. Hawksight.

And as the name suggests, he was a hawk with  superb eyesight able to spot a mouse in a giant forest. His plan was to attack the Brobdingnagian structure from above, swooping and snatching a beaver. The very next day, he proceeded with his venture. He attacked the building breaking into the wooden structure. He was about to snatch one of the frightened beavers when the wooden roof collapsed because of the collision. It fell directly onto the hawk. However, the rest of the structure had rock pillars to protect it from such collisions. The upper structures were still under construction and hence did not have the pillars. After the incident, the beavers instantly carved and placed the pillars.

After a week or so, the final touches were given to the structure and it was opened for the general beaver public.

It was lavishly decorated and Mr. Woodtail, the construction head and Mr. Brown the architect, received a splendid applause from the residents. The beavers were also thoughtful enough to construct a large wooden bridge for the other animals of the forest to cross the river. The bridge also had a wooden roof and wooden walls to protect from rain and predatory birds. The other animals greatly appreciated the idea and were thankful to the beavers for being so considerate.

As for Mr. Hawksight, he survived the collapse and went back home. However, he was left with one reminder of the event. His left wing was so badly injured that he could never fly again.

Serves you right, Mr. Hawksight!
